Our Principles

All of the projects that Kiron facilitates for its clients are based on three key principles:
  • Balancing Learning & Insight with Planning & Results
  • Balancing Design & Organization with Story & Meaning
  • Balancing Operational Innovation & Strategic Innovation

Balancing Learning & Insight with Planning & Results
Our experience is that the better the Learning and Insights (inputs) in the innovation and change project, the better the Planning & Results (outputs). Thus we help our clients gather knowledge and insight from all relevant sources. We know that sometimes only "crazy ideas" lead to real innovation. We focus on a good balance between gaining insight for its own sake and for delivering real results.

Balancing Design & Organization with Story & Meaning
The visible part of an innovation and change project - design and organization - are like the tip of an iceberg, often the lesser part of the challenge. For a project to result in real change, it means facing into the unknown and often uncomfortable world of emotion. We use a Story Approach to help our clients navigate the emotional and meaning territory. We believe that for successful innovation and change it is important to be the master of both worlds.

Learning & Insights come from both worlds - the World of Facts & Logic (e.g. auditing the existing structure, best practices reviews) and the Word of Emotion (e.g. analyzing the Meaning System). Similarly, Planning & Results come from both worlds. Often it is necessary to have successes in the World of Emotion (for example, building a critical mass of project missionaries) before trying to change something in the World of Facts & Logic.

Balancing Operational Innovation & Strategic Innovation
There are many different definitions of Operational versus Strategic. Kiron regards Operation Innovations as those that are market driven - asked for by the customer. We consider Strategic Innovation as vision-driven, and generally more long-term in nature than Operational Innovation. In our view, Strategic Innovation offers a framework for developing Operational Innovation, and ensures that market driven changes will keep working seamlessly together. Kiron's principle is to make sure that the strategy is right before innovating operationally.
